These art events await you in summer 2023

The festival season has begun: things are getting loud and creative in Hamburg. Because the festival summer is not only organized by bands and DJs, but also by performance artists, graffiti artists, abstract painters and installers. You should know these insider tips and event classics from the Hamburg art scene.

STAMP - International Festival of Street Arts

The STAMP enchants the Altona district for six days. A must if you want to experience street art up close. From June 30th to July 2nd International artists transform the district into a colorful stage . The festival takes place as part of the Altonale, which starts on June 17th - Northern Germany's most comprehensive and diverse cultural event. At STAMP you can experience, among other things, acrobats on skis, a pub cinema film series and futuristic works of art. This year, all art projects have the motto “Upheaval”: They invite you to pause in a world that is changing at increasing speed. You can find the colorful and free program here . A tip from the organizers: Bring your own chairs, stools, blankets and ladders to enjoy the artists' shows even better and to make yourself comfortable in front of the stages.

Millerntor Gallery - art and social affairs

From July 13th to 16th, the Millerntor Gallery will once again combine art and social commitment in the FC St. Pauli stadium. Here you can admire impressive works of art by renowned national and international artists: whether folk art from Central India by Bhuri Bai, South African street art by Nardstar*, or bizarre Zurich urban art by Brainfart - the Millerntor Gallery network is characterized by its diversity. Together, the artists want to make big waves this year and move people to take action beyond their art. The exhibition's motto is "Making Waves". And you can take part too: the proceeds from the sale of tickets and on-site offers go to charity. All artists will be presented online until the festival. You will also be able to find original Pippo Kudi art in the large exhibition area in the Millerntor station.

MS Artville - Festival for urban art and shared present

The MS Artville invites you to "look at art" in a lively harbor atmosphere with an Elbe backdrop and industrial flair. You can see and experience street art, installations and performance art by emerging artists. You can admire the works of art at the MS Artville on August 13th and at the MS Dockville from August 17th to 20th . August 13th is supposed to be a very special art day for young and old. This Sunday you can take part in art walks and workshops and see the creation of the open-air gallery live. Art and music merge at this event: From August 17th you can party with almost 60,000 visitors to live music while still admiring installations and fascinating art objects around you. Would you like to participate with your art yourself? The MS Artville has announced a “ Call for Artists ”. The line-up for the MS-Dockville is already in place.

Reeperbahn Festival – Club Festival meets Art

The Reeperbahn Festival is no longer an insider tip when it comes to music. But did you know that there are other art forms to discover here too? – A diverse Arts & Word program will once again bring artistic, literary and discursive content to the festival this year. In addition to concerts, the organizers also invite you to “experience art” through workshops or walks. The Reeperbahn Festival will take place this year from September 20th to 23rd . It will be announced later which artists, alongside the big bands and musicians, will provide colorful street exhibitions. Be excited and let yourself be inspired by another event with a combination of art and music.

Fluctoplasma - Hamburg's festival for art, discourse and diversity

The interdisciplinary art festival is taking place for the fourth time from October 26th to 29th and promises an exciting stage for artists , collectives and speakers to be from different backgrounds. Whether queer, Jewish or BI_PoC - here you will find a variety of perspectives that enrich our society. Fluctoplasma stands for culture, democracy and solidarity. A varied program awaits you here every day from morning to evening: you can experience panels and performances, enjoy concerts and get involved in exciting VR walks - either on site or digitally. The motto for 2023 is "Crush Your Egosystems", a call to free yourself from egocentric thought patterns and make room for new ideas. If you would like to contribute to this creative movement yourself, you can apply for the open call until May 14th .

The Affordable Art Fair - buy art cheaply

Although the Affordable Art Fair takes place a little later in the year (November 9th - November 12th) , it is definitely an art event that you should note. Here you have the opportunity to purchase high-quality works of art at affordable prices . The prices for the works range between 100 and 10,000 euros. How does this work despite the high prices on the art market? – Many works by emerging artists will be exhibited at the fair. Many who exhibited several years ago are now very successful, said trade fair director Oliver Lähndorf to NDR. The fair celebrated its tenth anniversary last year and is now the largest art fair in northern Germany. An impressive selection of contemporary art will once again be presented this year, from paintings to sculptures to photographs. Whether you are an experienced art collector or a newcomer to the field, the Affordable Art Fair offers you a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of art.
