From the series: Long Journey
Cologne, or lovingly called "Kölle," is my second home and the heart of my family's roots in the Rhineland. The cheerful and outspoken spirit of the city's Karnevalists brings a smile to everyone's face. With open arms, the locals welcome every visitor to their Cathedral City. They are liberal, multicultural, sometimes loud, and always on the lookout for the next Karneval party.
Diversity and vibrancy are ever-present in Cologne, reflected not only in its people but also in its culinary scene. The plates served in the city's traditional brewpubs, like the one my cousin runs, are just as colorful and varied as my time at Brainpool TV, where I experienced countless unforgettable moments. While Südstadt is my personal center of Cologne, for many visitors, the city's most striking memory remains the dark Gothic architecture of the Cologne Cathedral. Its majestic presence is awe-inspiring, giving the city a unique and almost spiritual atmosphere. A visit to the cathedral is not just sightseeing—it is an experience that fills you with quiet wonder.
With my artwork "Kölsch," I aim to capture the vibrant and unique atmosphere of this incredible city. The colors and shapes reflect Cologne’s joy, openness, and diversity. It is a tribute to my second home and the people who make it so special.
